Beach season doesn't have to end when summer vacation does!

Why we love fall in Ocean City, Maryland: Beach season doesn't have to end when summer vacation does!

One of our favorite times to visit Ocean City, Maryland is in the fall, which is known by the locals as its “second season.” September and October bring milder weather and peaceful beaches with still-warm ocean water. Although I’m a fan of heat, don’t get me wrong…I do love being able to lay out on the beach and listen to the seagulls and waves crashing without feeling like I’m being baked in an oven.

While there are plenty of opportunities to wiggle your toes in the sand at our condo at Carousel 601, a stroll down the boardwalk, where many businesses, restaurants, and arcades are open year-round, helps keep me active. Less crowds equal great sales during the fall… to be honest this is when I usually purchase my Ocean City, Maryland T-shirts! The same deals apply to shopping at the nearby Tanger outlets at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware or the now independently owned outlets in West Ocean City, Maryland. The locations have many of the same stores, but there are some unique ones to check out too.

For the active beach goer, less humidity and milder temperatures makes being outside much more enjoyable than the summer. Although I often classify myself as athletically challenged, golfing is in full swing at numerous championship courses, many of which have been featured in professional magazines. I’ve been told that Eagle’s Landing has gorgeous views of Sinepuxent Bay and Assateague. If you are more like me or are vacationing with children, you might try a leisurely game from one of the many mini-golf locations through Ocean City, which are still open in the fall. Our favorite is Old Pro, as we find their courses well-maintained and their two indoor locations, which include an arcade, are ideal on a rainy day. Old Pro has several locations in Ocean City, but the indoor Safari Village/outdoor Caribbean Pirates one on 136 Street is closest to Carousel 601.

Autumn also brings various parades and festivals such as Bikefest (September 12-15, 2019), Sunfest (September 19-22, 2019), Wine on the Beach (September 27-28, 2019), the Endless Summer Cruisin’ Car Show (October 10-13, 2019), and the Halloween Beach Maze (October 20-21 & October 27-28, 2019).

One of our favorite weeks to visit was Restaurant Week (October 13-27, 2019)! Every fall, a nice list of Ocean City’s restaurant chefs put together special menus with the goal of exhibiting their cooking at its best! The food is delicious and really helped us branch out and try new places! The Restaurant Week menus can range from family friendly specials on individual food items or can be a fancy, three course fixed prix dinner.

Fall in love with the beach at Carousel 601! We still have openings from September-December, plus we do shorter stays now that it's off-season! Less crowds equals the best rates!
